CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Urethritis, characterized by inflammation of the urethra, is a prevalent condition affecting individuals globally. It can result from various infectious and non-infectious etiologies, including bacterial, viral, and chemical agents. Identifying the major causative agent of urethritis is crucial for effective diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite advancements in medical research, determining the primary etiologic agent of urethritis remains a challenge. 1.3 Objectives of the Study

ii. To determine the role of viral infections in the etiology of urethritis.

iii. To find out the contribution of non-infectious factors, such as chemical irritants, to the development of urethritis.

i. What is the prevalence of bacterial pathogens in urethritis cases?

ii. What is the incidence rate of viral infections associated with urethritis?

iii. How does exposure to chemical irritants correlate with the occurrence of urethritis?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

Hypothesis I

H0: There is no significant impact of bacterial pathogens on the occurrence of urethritis.

H1: There is a significant impact of bacterial pathogens on the occurrence of urethritis.

Hypothesis II

H0: There is no significant association between viral infections and urethritis.

H2: There is a significant association between viral infections and urethritis.

Hypothesis III

H0: There is no significant correlation between exposure to chemical irritants and urethritis.

H3: There is a significant correlation between exposure to chemical irritants and urethritis.

1.6 Significance of the Study

1.7 Scope of the Study

1.8 Limitations of the Study
