DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERIZED DATABASE UPDATING SYSTEM FOR A TRANSACTION –DRIVE/OPERATION
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
In today's digital age, businesses rely heavily on efficient data management systems to streamline their operations and stay competitive. One critical aspect of business operations is the management of transaction data, which involves recording, storing, and updating information related to various transactions. Traditional paper-based methods of managing transaction data are not only time-consuming but also prone to errors and inefficiencies. Hence, there is a growing need for computerized database systems tailored to handle transaction-driven operations effectively.
One of the most important device where computer application was achieved a remarkable recognition is in the area of transaction-driven operations. With respect to that having examined some problems is that retard the speed, accuracy and efficiency in a typical manual transaction-driven operation sector, attempts to develop a computerized method of handling a transaction operation in a big organization such as Nigerian Stock Exchange is to be embarked upon. However, if the program become useful and prove efficient contrary to the traditional method of manual handling of transaction operations. It should be such as a useful tool in computerization of other related for unsanctioned activities.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The manual processing of transaction data poses several challenges, including data redundancy, inconsistency, and the risk of data loss. Moreover, the lack of real-time updates hampers decision-making processes and overall operational efficiency. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop a computerized database updating system to address these issues and enhance the management of transaction-driven operations.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of a computerized database updating system for transaction-driven operations. Specific objectives include:
i. To evaluate the impact of the proposed system on data accuracy and consistency.
ii. To determine the efficiency gains achieved through real-time data updates.
iii. To find out the user satisfaction level with the implemented system.
1.4 Research Questions
i. What is the impact of the proposed system on data accuracy and consistency?
ii. What is the efficiency gain achieved through real-time data updates?
iii. How does the user satisfaction level with the implemented system compare to the previous manual process?
1.5 Research Hypotheses
Hypothesis I
H0: There is no significant impact of the proposed system on data accuracy and consistency.
H1: There is a significant impact of the proposed system on data accuracy and consistency.
Hypothesis II
H0: There is no significant efficiency gain achieved through real-time data updates.
H2: There is a significant efficiency gain achieved through real-time data updates.
Hypothesis III
H0: There is no significant difference in user satisfaction level between the implemented system and the previous manual process.
H3: There is a significant difference in user satisfaction level between the implemented system and the previous manual process.
1.6 Significance of the Study
The implementation of a computerized database updating system for transaction-driven operations holds significant implications for businesses. It can lead to improved data accuracy, enhanced operational efficiency, and better decision-making processes. Additionally, it can reduce the workload on employees, allowing them to focus on more strategic tasks. Ultimately, the study aims to contribute to the advancement of data management practices in modern organizations.
1.7 Scope of the Study
This study focuses on the design and implementation of a computerized database updating system specifically tailored for transaction-driven operations. The scope includes the development of the system architecture, database design, user interface, and integration with existing business processes. The evaluation of the system's effectiveness will be conducted within a selected organization or industry sector.
1.8 Limitations of the Study
Despite its significance, the study has certain limitations that need to be acknowledged. These include the availability of resources for system development, potential resistance to change from employees, and the need for ongoing maintenance and support. Additionally, the generalizability of the findings may be limited to the specific context in which the system is implemented.
1.9 Definition of Terms
Computerized Database Updating System: A software solution designed to automate the process of updating transaction data in a database.
Transaction-Driven Operations: Business operations characterized by a high volume of transactions, such as sales, purchases, and financial transactions.
Data Accuracy: The degree to which data correctly represents the real-world objects or events it is intended to describe.
Real-time Data Updates: The process of updating data in a database immediately after a transaction occurs, ensuring that the database reflects the most current information.
User Satisfaction: The level of contentment or happiness experienced by users when interacting with a system or service.
